This immersive performance called "Encore Melaka" (Encore Melaka) is one of the most shocking cultural experiences in Malacca tourism. Created by Chinese directors Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue, the team spent two years studying local history, culture and residents' lives in depth, and officially took to the stage in 2018.

The entire performance is intertwined with shocking multimedia vision and live song and dance to reproduce the story of this ancient city that spans six centuries-from the early era of navigation and the prosperity of trade to the modern city of diverse ethnic groups. The audience seems to be in a time tunnel, experiencing firsthand how Malacca has transformed from a fishing village to an international port where multiple cultures meet.

The play also cleverly incorporates the history of Zheng He's journey to the Atlantic, the birth of Baba Nyonya culture, and the exchanges and coexistence between different ethnic groups. The 70-minute performance was presented in English, Malay, Chinese, Tamil, dialects and Portuguese in turns, perfectly reflecting the characteristics of Malacca's multilingual communion. This is not just a performance, but more like a cultural journey through time and space to relive the spirit of Malacca.
